Chocolate Boxes and Inserts

The everyday working range: printed boxes made to your piece count, and the trays, inserts and dividers that hold the chocolates inside. Pick a box, an insert, or both together.

  • From £0.25 a box
  • Free design proof first
  • Printed in 4 to 6 working days

What is in this range?

Five products that cover most of what a chocolate counter needs. Custom printed boxes in any style and size. Boxes supplied with a card insert or a formed food-safe PET tray. Boxes with slotted card dividers. Boxes with a clear window. And inserts on their own, for boxes you already own.

Every item is made to your measurements. You give us the size of one chocolate and the number in each box, and we draw the box and the insert together so they fit.

This is the range most chocolatiers start with, because it covers the boxes sold every day: the twelve piece assortment, the four piece taster at the till and the window box on the shelf. Gift and rigid boxes, bar packaging and shaped boxes sit in their own ranges.

How do the five products compare?

Most makers end up with two of these: a printed box for the core range and a window box or a divided box for a second line.

Which insert holds which chocolate?

Firm, enrobed chocolates and truffles sit well in a die-cut card insert. Soft ganaches, dusted truffles and painted shells are better in a formed PET tray, which holds each piece by its base. Mixed shapes and larger pieces like fudge suit card dividers.

If you are unsure, the guide to choosing inserts and trays for chocolates walks through each one with examples.

How do you choose a box size?

Size follows the chocolate. Measure one finished piece across and from base to top, decide on the count, and we add room for the insert walls and the board.

Typical sizes for round pieces are a useful start: a 2 x 2 box of 30 mm truffles is about 105 x 105 x 30 mm, and a 4 x 3 box of 25 mm pieces is about 200 x 155 x 30 mm. Your box is always drawn to your own numbers.

Depth deserves as much care as width. Leave a few millimetres of air above the tallest piece so the lid never touches piped tops or dusting, and deepen the cups for tall pieces such as cones and domes.

What do buyers usually get wrong?

We check for each of these when we draw the box, and point them out on the free proof.

  • Measuring the mould rather than the finished, decorated piece
  • Measuring the outside of an old box when ordering an insert for it
  • Choosing a card insert for soft chocolates that will be posted
  • Making divider strips as tall as the box, so pieces are hard to lift
  • Placing a window where the lid edge crosses it

How does an order in this range work?

Boxes arrive flat with inserts packed alongside, so storage stays small until you need them.

  1. Send the count, one piece size and the style you like.
  2. Within one working day an email arrives with the price and the box size we propose.
  3. You approve a free design proof showing box and insert together.
  4. We make the boxes in 4 to 6 working days, or 8 to 10 if rigid.
  5. Free tracked delivery reaches UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days.

Can boxes and inserts be ordered separately later?

Yes. Once a box and insert have been drawn, the sizes stay on file. Many makers order a large run of boxes once and reorder inserts in smaller batches as flavours change, or the other way round.

That also means a new insert layout, for example nine pieces instead of twelve, can be drawn for boxes you already hold.

How is this range priced?

Card boxes start from £0.25 a box. The exact price depends on size, insert, finish and quantity and comes back on your quote by email. Rigid versions are quoted higher.

Minimums are low and quoted per job. Misprinted or damaged boxes are reprinted or refunded when reported within 10 days of delivery.
