A box gives a bar presence

A boxed bar stands up on a shelf, stacks neatly and survives a handbag. It also gives you six panels to print instead of two.

That extra room suits tasting notes, the origin of the beans or a short story about the maker.

Kraft or white board?

Kraft board has a natural brown look that suits craft and single-origin bars. White board makes bright colours pop.

Both print well in food-safe inks; ask for one of each on the proof if you cannot decide.

What are chocolate bar boxes?

They are slim card boxes sized to hold one chocolate bar, usually still in its foil or inner wrap. The bar slides in from one end or lies in an opening wallet, and the printed box becomes the face of the product.

The photos show three directions: a cream box with flowing lettering, a black wallet that opens to show the bar and a card, and a kraft box with a bold coloured band. They are sample designs; yours will carry your own artwork.

Bar boxes are a step up from a wrapper. They hold their shape, protect the corners of the bar and look at home on a shop shelf or in a gift hamper.

They also make a bar easier to sell through another shop. A box with a clear front panel, a barcode area and the weight on the back is what most delis and gift shops expect to see when a new maker brings in samples.

Tuck end or wallet: which style suits you?

A tuck end box is the quickest to fill and the most compact. A wallet makes the opening part of the experience, with space inside for a printed card. A sleeve and tray suits thicker slabs and boxes holding two or three bars.

How is a bar box sized?

We size from the bar in its inner wrap, because that is what goes into the box. A little extra length lets the bar slide in without catching, and a snug width stops it rattling.

If you already use wrappers and want to box the same bars, send the wrapped size and we draw the box around it.

A bar that is boxed without a wrap needs a little more care. We can add a printed inner card or a glassine sheet so the chocolate does not sit directly against the board, and size the box around that layer.

  1. Measure the wrapped bar: length, width, thickness in mm.
  2. Pick a style: tuck end, wallet or sleeve with tray.
  3. Choose white, kraft or a coloured board.
  4. Send your artwork or a rough idea.
  5. Check the free proof with fold lines marked before printing.

What goes on each panel?

Inside print is a nice surprise when the box is opened, and costs little extra on most runs.

  • Front: logo, bar name, cocoa percentage, flavour
  • Back: ingredients, allergens, weight, your address
  • Spine and ends: flavour name for stacked display
  • Inside: a tasting note, the story of the bar or a thank-you message
  • Front window, if you want the wrap to show

Can a bar box have a window?

Yes. A window cut into the front shows the foil or the printed wrap inside. It works especially well when the inner wrap is itself printed, so the customer sees two layers of your design.

We keep a margin of board around the window so the front stays firm.

Which finish suits a chocolate bar box?

Matt on kraft gives a calm, natural look. Gloss on white makes colours lively. Soft touch on a dark board feels smooth in the hand, and foil on the logo picks up the light on a shelf.

If customers will see the box under bright shop lighting, matt and soft touch cut down on glare.

Who orders chocolate bar boxes?

Bean to bar makers and small chocolate brands use them for their core range. Gift shops and delis box bars made locally. Hotels and companies order branded bars for guests and clients, often in a wallet with a printed card inside.

Bar boxes also suit hot chocolate flakes, chocolate-coated nuts in a flat bag and small slabs of fudge, as long as the item is flat.

Wedding and party planners use small bar boxes as favours, printed with names and a date. Because each box is the same size, a run can carry several names or designs at once without changing the cutter.

How do bar boxes arrive and fold?

They arrive flat, glued along the side seam, so each one pops open into a tube. Tuck the bottom flap, slide the bar in and tuck the top flap. A wallet is folded along its spine and closed with its flap.

Flat boxes take up little room, so you can keep a season's supply under a counter.

What should you watch out for?

Bars with inclusions or a patterned back are thicker than a plain bar, so measure a finished one. Fine text near a fold line can disappear into the crease, so we mark folds on the proof.

If bars will stand upright on a shelf, ask for a tuck flap with a small lock so the box does not open under the weight of the bar.

Think about how the box will be stacked. Bars laid flat in a basket want the logo on the front face. Bars stood on their end in a row want the flavour name on the end panel, where the customer will actually read it.

How long do bar boxes take?

Production is 4 to 6 working days after you approve the proof. Your cartons then reach any UK mainland address in 2 to 3 working days, tracked and free.

Misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded, so check a carton when it arrives.

How do you order chocolate bar boxes?

Send the wrapped size of the bar, the style, the board and your artwork. The panel on this page, the quote form and WhatsApp all reach the same team.

Expect a price in your inbox within one working day. Minimums stay low and are set per job, and several flavours can share an order.
