Cut size first

Brownies and fudge are cut by hand, so sizes vary a little. Measure a few pieces and give us the largest.

We add room so the pieces slide in without crumbling at the edges.

Shallow on purpose

A shallow box stops pieces stacking on top of each other and sticking. Each square sits flat and shows its topping.

Depth is set from your tallest piece, including toppings.

What are brownie and fudge boxes?

They are flat printed boxes made for cut squares and slabs: brownies, blondies, fudge, tiffin, rocky road and millionaire's shortbread. The box is shallow so every piece sits flat, and it is sized to your cut so pieces do not slide around.

The four photos show a pink long box with a row of topped brownies, three stacked printed brownie boxes, a white fudge box with a tag and a lilac fudge box with a window. They are sample designs; your box carries your own branding.

These boxes sit naturally in a chocolate range. Many chocolatiers make fudge or brownies alongside their chocolates, and bakeries often sell them from the same counter as truffles.

Which style suits brownies, and which suits fudge?

Brownies, with toppings that should not be squashed, usually go in long tray boxes or lid and base boxes. Fudge is firmer and often sold in a window tuck box where the colours show through.

If you sell both, one box size can often serve them. A long tray box that holds five brownies may hold eight cubes of fudge in two rows, so one print run covers both products and only the label changes.

How do we size the box to your cut?

Hand-cut squares vary by a few millimetres, so we size from the largest piece. We add a small margin each side so pieces go in without breaking their edges, and set the depth from the tallest piece including any topping.

If you cut to a fixed size with a guide or a frame, tell us that size and we will work from it.

  1. Cut a few pieces as you normally would.
  2. Measure the largest one: length, width and height in mm.
  3. Decide how many go in a box and in what arrangement.
  4. Choose the style and whether you want a window or dividers.
  5. Check the free proof, which lists the inside size of the box.

Dividers, cases or a sheet of glassine?

Brownies with sticky toppings do well with card dividers between each square, so toppings do not touch. Fudge cubes sit nicely in paper cases. Plain brownies and slabs often need only a sheet of glassine on the floor of the box and another on top.

Card dividers are slotted strips that form a grid. You can read more about them on our page for chocolate boxes with card dividers.

Whichever you choose, add it to the quote so we size the box with it in mind. Dividers take a little width, and paper cases add a few millimetres around each cube.

Can a fudge box have a window?

Yes. A window shows the colours and textures of fudge better than any picture. A tuck box with a window on the front, like the lilac box in the photos, suits fudge stacked in a block. A lid with a window suits an assortment laid out in a grid.

Keep a glassine sheet under the window so the fudge does not touch the film.

What should be printed on the box?

All print uses food-safe inks. Matt finishes take handwriting and stamps well, which suits makers who date each batch by hand.

  • Your logo and the flavour or selection name on the lid
  • Ingredients and allergens on the base or a side
  • Storage advice in a short line
  • A pattern that suits your brand, like the stacked boxes in the photos
  • A space for a handwritten date or label

Who orders brownie and fudge boxes?

Bakeries, home bakers selling online, fudge makers at markets and seaside shops, chocolate shops with a fudge counter, cafes, and companies sending a box of brownies as a thank-you.

Brownie boxes are also a popular choice for posted treats, because brownies travel better than most cakes.

Fudge makers who sell at seaside towns and summer fairs often want a small box that slips into a pocket or handbag, with the flavour printed large. A shallow tuck box with a window does exactly that.

Can brownies be posted in these boxes?

Yes. A snug box with dividers or glassine between layers keeps squares from shifting. Wrap the box in a close-fitting outer carton and post early in the week. In warm weather, chocolate toppings soften, so a cool pack helps.

Sleeve and tray boxes are good for posting because the tray sits inside a firm tube that protects the corners.

For a box of mixed traybakes, put the firmest pieces at the ends and the softest in the middle, where they are best protected from knocks.

What mistakes should you avoid?

Sizing from an average piece rather than the largest is the first. One wide brownie then forces the others to tilt.

The second is a box too deep for the pieces, which lets them slide and stack. The third is letting sticky toppings touch the lid; leave a little air above the tallest piece or add a card pad.

How long do brownie and fudge boxes take?

We print and make these boxes in 4 to 6 working days once your proof is approved. They then travel free and tracked to any UK mainland address in 2 to 3 working days, flat and ready to fold.

A box that reaches you misprinted or damaged is reprinted or refunded if you let us know within 10 days.

How do you order brownie and fudge boxes?

Tell us the size of your largest piece, how many go in a box, the style and any window or dividers. Add your logo, or a sketch if the artwork is not ready.

A price comes back by email within one working day, and minimums are low and set per job.

Brownie and Fudge Boxes questions

More answers in Help, or WhatsApp us on +44 7578 382054.

How deep should a brownie box be?

Just deeper than your tallest brownie including toppings, with a little air above so the lid does not touch.

Can a brownie box hold a row of six squares?

Yes. A long tray box is a common way to sell a row of four to six brownies.

Should fudge go in paper cases inside the box?

Fudge cubes sit nicely in paper cases; a glassine sheet also works for a block of fudge.

Can a fudge box have a window?

Yes. A window on the front or lid shows the colours of the fudge.

Can brownie boxes have dividers between squares?

Yes. Card dividers stop sticky toppings touching.

Are brownie and fudge boxes printed with food-safe inks?

Yes, inside and out.

Can I post brownies in these boxes?

Yes, with dividers or glassine, a close-fitting outer carton and a cool pack in warm weather.

Should I measure the average or largest brownie for the box?

The largest, so every piece fits flat.

Is kraft board available for fudge boxes?

Yes. Kraft suits a traditional look; white board suits bright colours.

Can a matt fudge box take a handwritten date?

Yes. Matt finishes take pens and stamps well.

Can a fudge box hold a 3 x 3 grid?

Yes. A square lid and base box with dividers holds nine pieces in a grid.

Do brownie boxes arrive flat?

Yes. They arrive flat and fold up by hand.
